Orange County Friends Meeting
Religious Society of Friends (Quakers)
Quakers like those who attend Orange County Friends Meeting, who meet for worship in silence, with no prearranged order of service and no single person appointed to guide what happens, (e.g. no pastor) call their congregation a Meeting. Such are sometimes called unprogrammed meetings.
Quakers who have a pastor-led service with shorter or no moments of silent worship, with prearranged events (hymns, prayers, sermons) also sometimes call themselves a Meeting, but more often a Church.
Both styles descend from the same roots, but separated during the revival movements of the 19th century.
